Sidewalk construction begins on Ashford Dunwoody Rd.

Brookhaven, GA Jan.13, 2013 – Brookhaven crews will begin construction of a new sidewalk on Ashford Dunwoody Road tomorrow.

The new 570 ft. sidewalk will stretch from Stratfield Drive to Humility Lane and connect to the existing sidewalk along the west side of the street.

Crews plan to work during the daytime hours, avoiding peak rush hour traffic. Motorists should expect partial lane closures and traffic delays between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Construction is expected to take several weeks depending on weather conditions.

“We are excited to make Brookhaven more walkable and connect neighborhoods to neighborhoods,” Mayor J. Max Davis said.

In November, Brookhaven City Council approved an amended 2013 budget with $400,000 to build new sidewalks. Working with the public works director, each council member and the mayor selected locations in each district ensuring sidewalk improvements will be made throughout the entire city.

An additional $500,000 is allocated for sidewalk construction in this year’s 2014 budget, totaling close to $1 million in pedestrian improvements in Brookhaven’s first two years.

  1. The sidewalk needs to be extended between Windsor and Peachtree. It is a very dangerous stretch of road for pedestrians.

    • I agree. This work should include widening of the road to accommodate longer turn lanes at the Peachtree intersection to accommodate peak traffic volumes. Camping out at this traffic light is no fun during rush hour.
