In an already congested stretch along Dresden Drive – across the street from DeKalb Fire Station #2 – clearing has begun for a new 230 unit apartment complex. Locals are concerned that the resulting traffic from this new development – when coupled with the Hines project just down the street that is scoped at 215 units – will add to an already gridlocked section of Dresden Dr. during peak travel times. Add to that, the baffling traffic light setups at Ellijay Dr. and also at Caldwell Rd., a plan will certainly be needed for traffic calming.
District 3 Councilman, Bates Mattison, who represents the citizens of this area, says “A traffic study will be a part of our Comprehensive Plan which the city will begin working on in the next month or so.” So, the city is aware and we shall see what develops in the coming months.
From a July 10, 2012 post on abetterbrookhaven.org:
A new project, currently named “Alta Brookhaven,” has been submitted to DeKalb County Planning Department for review of Overlay Zoning Compliance. The project fills about 2/3 of the block between Dresden and Peachtree View and consists of 230 apartment units on 3.148 acres. It’s a 4 story structure with internal parking deck and some on-street parking. See below for the drawings submitted. The BPCA will be reviewing the plans in detail for Overlay compliance and providing our comments to the Planning Department. Please feel free to chime in.
In November 2012, Wood Partners and Admiral Capital Real Estate Fund acquired The Brookhaven, a 17-story condominium community at 3383 Peachtree Rd. – next door to Cherokee Plaza.
The acquisition team of Wood Partners, a national real estate company that acquires, develops, constructs and property manages multifamily communities, is bullish on the Brookhaven’s location at 3833 Peachtree Road. The property is three blocks from a MARTA rapid transit station and just blocks from Buckhead’s center with Atlanta’s finest dining and entertainment and the shops at Phipps Plaza and Lenox Square.
