DeKalb County Schools Interim Superintendent, Michael Thurmond, addressed and fielded questions from those in attendance at Tuesday nights Brookhaven City Council Meeting.
My #1 priority as the Interim Superintendent is to address issues raised by SAC’s and to make sure that we respond in every feasible way to the concerns that have been raised…we will do everything we can to meet the challenges that face us. The dysfunction in the [school] board, represents the dysfunction in our county. It doesn’t just exist in our [school] board. It exists in our county. We have to come together. We have to see that this is in all of our best interests. Not only to educate our own children, but to educate other peoples children. In economic development – if you have any interest in creating economic growth and prosperity – one thing you are going to need is a skilled, trained, educated work force…we have to be interested in the education of the children today for a better future.”
