Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Chamblee Library, 4115 Clairmont Road, Chamblee, GA 30341, Commissioner Stan Watson and Commissioner Jeff Rader will hold a community meeting regarding a proposed rate increase to improve and maintain the current storm water utility system.
Relevant to City of Brookhaven Citizens, and although the Press Release below from DeKalb County mentions “unincorporated DeKalb County”, those in the City could also be affected by a Storm Water Utility price increase. The County must decide during their May BOC meeting if they are going to raise the rates in order to get them onto this years tax bills. The rate could go from $48.00 to $60.00 annually. At the $48.00 level, this means $1.3 to $1.5 million dollars in Storm Water Utility fee collections.
“Brookhaven is taking over the stormwater utility within the city limits from DeKalb. We are planning to recommend to our City Council that they adopt the Current DeKalb County Rate for this year’s assessment that will be billed as a special assessment fee on city property tax bills. (Note that in past years city residents have paid this fee to DeKalb. The only change is that they will now pay to the city.) If the County raises its fee to $60 a year per residential unit from the current $48 a year, we will propose that the Council adopt the “new” DeKalb rate for the city. If DeKalb stays at $48, we would likely propose to stay with the old rate. This was discussed at the last work session meeting.” – Richard Meehan, City of Brookhaven Public Works Director
The video below will start at the point in the Work Session where this is discussed.
