The City of Brookhaven has issued the following Press Release:
Brookhaven, GA, Sept. 12, 2013 – Brookhaven will soon employ its own fire marshal to streamline the city’s building permit process.
Currently, all building permits for fire protection are processed through the DeKalb County Fire Department, which has limited staffing to handle permitting for the entire county.
Brookhaven will partner with Decatur’s fire marshal who will work as a part-time contractor for the city. The fire marshal will work under the direction of the community development director and will oversee building permitting only. The new fire marshal is expected to start next week.
“Bringing a fire marshal in-house will help complete the circle of review for building permits and ensure that applicants are issued permits in and efficient, timely manner,” City Manager Marie L. Garrett said.
The city is working toward establishing a 10-day benchmark for approving and issuing and building permits in Brookhaven.
DeKalb County will still provide fire and rescue services to the city.
