[wowslider id=”20″]Brookhaven, GA, November 9 – A chilly start to Saturday wasn’t enough to scare off volunteer crews who set out to cleanup and beautify two of Brookhaven’s Parks.
Friends of Brookhaven Park had several community and student volunteers join their ranks who pruned and gathered overgrowth in the planted areas at the entrance of the park.
Heather Staniszewski, who is the Associate Director of the Center for Civic Engagement at Oglethorpe, brought Jessica Rodriguez, Gelise Porter and Mounica Kota to lend a hand in the efforts. Oglethorpe University continues to be a strong contributor to our community.
Carol Simpson (Ashe-Simpson Nursery), Mary Ann Kelly, Tonya Arnette (Haven Restaurant), Mary Ellen Layden, and Michael Elliot also got in on the action.

Three members of the Coy family – Kathie, Conor and Sean – along with Steve Walker, Jeff McConnell and Kelly Frye took on the park as a small but mighty force. Showing his toughness, Conor (age 5), ran an entire 5K race earlier Saturday morning and somehow found the energy to help out the crew.
McConnell used a pole saw to bring out of reach branches to the ground, which were then cut into smaller lengths, gathered up and stacked in piles by the Coy’s, Walker and Frye.
Both parks show off the cleanup efforts well.
