The Brookhaven Bucks Remain Atop the Sunbelt Standings with Win in the Home Opener!
Brookhaven, GA, June 5 – In one of three Sunbelt League games of the evening, the Brookhaven Bucks defeated the Windward Braves for the second time in as many games on Wednesday night by a score of 6-2, keeping them atop the Sunbelt League standings. It was the first home game of the season for the Bucks after playing at Windward in the season opener. So far this season, the Bucks have scored eight runs, while limiting their opponents to just three.
The Bucks’ bats came to life early in Wednesday’s ball game with three runs in the first inning and two in the second. The top of the order provided much of the offense, as Oscar Prilleou, J.J. Shafer, and Deric Boone did a great job of getting on base and coming around to score in the first two innings. While the bats cooled off a bit as the game wore on, the arms did not. Kevin Steen, who is committed to Tennessee and figures to be a high pick in the upcoming MLB draft, pitched three strong innings, and the Bucks used an additional four pitchers out of the bullpen, who combined to work six strong innings.
Bucks fans will have a lot to look forward to this season, as they have proven themselves as a talented ball club with quality pitching and hitting – as well as an excellent manager, Nick Hogan. As talented as they already are, the Bucks still have a few players who could potentially join the club in the next few games, but haven’t yet.
The next home game for the Bucks will be Saturday at 1:35 at Oglethorpe University when they take on the 0-2 Atlanta Crackers.
The Brookhaven Bucks are a collegiate summer baseball team, playing in the Sunbelt Baseball League. The Bucks season runs from early June through early August. Home games are played at Oglethorpe University.
