That doesn’t look any worse to me than the water stained concrete walls. Maybe the city can commission a mural, perhaps even get the elementary school kids involved.

Hey, if we embrace the tagging like the people of Cabbagetown embraced the Krog Street Tunnel, we may even have this become an art destination and lend a much-need level of cool to our community, where we are currently seen by the rest of the metro area as a bunch of rich, sheltered suburbanites.

Teach the graffiti artists to paint cherry blossoms…….then export their talents to District 1.

I love this idea!! I have thought for a while now that that would make an awesome site for a mural! Too bad Living Walls wont come here!

Isn’t there is a traffic camera on the Peachtree stop light facing the underpass? How about turning that on between midnight and dawn, and recording a dedicated feed, or mounting something temporary on the fence/retaining wall on golf course property?

A spray painted mural as the entrance to Redding Road? Heavens no. How trashy, this isn’t Chamblee or Cabbage Town.

Chamblee did a nice mural on the Chamblee Dunwoody Road Underpass beneath Peachtree Road.

Or put an anti graffiti coating on it that makes possible removal of graffiti by just using a pressure washer

Right, because dirty water stains are the epitome of class.

@Paul, That “camera” on the stop light isn’t a camera; it’s a sensor that triggers the light to turn when there’s a car in the intersection.

Some would say this isn’t any more offensive that those collections of ratty fences along Johnson Ferry. The only difference is that instead of possibly one or two ‘artists’ at Redding Road, Johnson Ferry has a couple of dozen of them that should know better.

Now there’s a site that would benefit from cherry blossom graffiti if there ever was one!

Laura, I hope your comment was in jest, if not I will donate the spray paint when your avantgarde taste in art moves to cabbageville

Laura, A brief trip down memory lane down this sheltered suburbanite community i.e. Brookhaven would inform you that MARTA’S original plans included closing Redding Road access similar to Eighth StreetAnd the only access to the hood would be via a fly over bridge from Ashford Dunwoody Road to Ashford to Dresden ( similar to PIB Clairmont Road Bridge). My father as president of the homeowners association was architect of the idea to get with planners to engineer the underpass at to facilitate a smooth flow of traffic into the hood Now watching those Urban Andy Warhols tagging this Sheltered Community while dangling 40 feet really would be cool !

THEN EMBRACE COMPULSORY TAGGING GRAFFITI K THRU 5 AT ASHFORD PARK SCHOOL. JUST LIKE JOHN LENNON IMAGINE THE FIELD TRIPS! REMEMBER WHEN SPRAY PAINT IS OUTLAWED ONLY TAGGERS WILL HAVE SPRAY PAINT.I AM SELLING MY ZONE 5 BUNGALOW IN C TOWN MOVING TO BROOK TOWN TO TRY AND MAKE IT COOOOOOOL

You only wish we were as cool as Chamblee or Cabbagetown.

    Laura Ross

It was not. And there are probably a lot of artists who will appreciate your donation of spray paint so thanks on behalf of them. Have you priced artist-quality spray paint lately? http://www.bindersart.com/montana-94-spray-paint.html

Seriously though, you need to modernize your thinking. Nowadays tagged art is all the rage and a lot of street artists are making a fine living selling their work in galleries.

You are using the wrong font for this, and no true tagger types in all caps.

Public works covering the tagging looks a lot worse than the original tagging did. They should go ahead and paint the whole thing.

What aesthetics? Decades old concrete full of stains? I couldn’t come up with an uglier design if I wanted to. The North Druid Hills and Dresden underpasses are just as bad. Ugly ugly ugly.

It’s a underpass built with tax dollars for function not. For a museum piece

    Laura,
ITHanks for the tip on moderzination I will give it serious sober consideration and get back to you with a full report when I get back from my tag art trip around the ATL via Cabbage ,Zone1,and Buford Highway

Was this overpass actually funded by local taxpayers through DeKalb or the state or was this funded by the rail line owner? Regardless, screw ball art is out of place.

If it is built soley for function, then why are residents upset about some tags?

It should be self evident; however I will give a a succinct explanation at the risk of sounding high brow let us give it a go. Those of us nurtured in the west recognize the need for laws in a civil society . Rudy Guliani ,NYPD ,the Brookhaven Police, myself and hopefully you are not mildly amused by such criminal behavior. The theory is known as the broken window theory which simply postulates stop minor criminal activity before it becomes a plethora of increasingly major crime.A criminal sizes up the surroundings and if they sense they can proceed with more crime they will ..If you are a long time resident of this area you will remember the Caldwell Apartments present Post Brookhaven which were a haven for criminal activity. It would take the 101st to keep this area safe if you did not as Barney said “nip it in the bud” The BPD has it hard enough without encouraging home grown and metro perps to come to this zip code and practice their lawlessness.Brookhaven is the fastest growing zip code in the metro and it ain,t because of tag art and a devil may care attitude towards crime..Brookhaven is the closes thing to a Norman Rockwell painting you are going to find in Modern Day America. Enjoy the and tranquil low crime rising property values and a quality lifestyle while you still can. Laura’s Krog Street thugs will end up here one day, much to the shagrin of hard working ,honest, decent family oriented people. If Cabbagetown awaits you and your posse do not let the traffic light at Redding hit you on the way out.

The paint over of the graffiti is the wrong color and would it have been to hard to at least paint all the way to the ground and even the top edge and side?

  34. 34

    I Am Cabbagetown

Cabbagetown did not embrace graffiti We did how ever embrace art along the CSX wall.
