Brookhaven, GA, June 23, 2015 – The Post Reports – Relying on power hitting in the fifth and sixth innings, the Brookhaven Bucks defeated the Phenix City Crawdads 9-4 Monday evening, in a contest held at Oglethorpe’s Anderson Field.
In the sixth inning, the Bucks (8-5) broke away from their tie, 2-2, with the Crawdads with a two run RBI single by left-fielder Will Johnson, scoring Harrison Siegel and J.J. Shaffer. Deric Boone scored Johnson with an RBI triple, raising the Bucks, 6-2.
The Bucks scored two runs in the fifth inning with a single by Siegel to score Gerrio Rahming and a sacrifice fly to center field by Shaffer to score catcher Morgan Blake.
The Bucks had 13 hits for the day.
The Crawdads (5-6) took an early lead in the top of the first inning with a screaming two run homerun by left fielder Kevin Manos, scoring third baseman, Tanner Knowles.
The Bucks focused defensively as they kept the Crawdads from scoring for the eight remaining innings. The Crawdads had 10 hits for the day, but were unable to move men around the bases in six of the 9 at bats—leaving the Crawdads trailing from the fifth inning on.
In a ninth inning rally, Crawdads right fielder Nic Griggs hit a deep two RBI triple to score Josh Bobo and Peyton Williams, closing the gap by two runs.
The Crawdads and the Bucks will meet again Wednesday evening at 7:15 at Oglethorpe’s Anderson Field.
