Brookhaven, GA, October 31, 2015 – Viewpoint by Brookhaven Resident Sally Eppstein – As a resident of Brookhaven what most attracted my husband and I to our Brookhaven home were all of the mature trees on our street and the surrounding neighborhoods.
When Brookhaven became a new city, it was exciting to hear our elected officials say they wanted our input when they held Comprehensive Plan meetings for the public. Very quickly it was evident that the City of Brookhaven’s 2034 Comprehensive Plan was not protecting the integrity of our neighborhoods as the city was approving high density housing throughout our community.
The City of Brookhaven’s past and current elected officials have not included residents’ input and seem to only look to builders, developers, and real estate lawyers to help with Planning and Zoning and the 2034 Comprehensive Plan. This is not a fair balance of planning and zoning.
This is why I am voting for John Ernst for the next Mayor of Brookhaven. John Ernst has listened to what the citizens have said and he is willing to invoke at least a six month moratorium on rezoning applications that increase density and to rewrite our current Comprehensive Plan.
John Ernst wants to get the most resourceful and dedicated residents to be on a steering committee for the revision of the Comprehensive Plan for what each neighborhood desires for future growth of each community.
John Ernst will steer the new zoning ordinance re-codification committee to mirror the new Comprehensive Plan.
Please get out next Tuesday, November 3rd, to vote for John Ernst because he truly cares how the current community wants protection of our schools, our environment, and our quality of life.
