Brookhaven, GA, January 1, 2016 – by Trey Benton – A stretch pf sidewalk along the City’s busy Johnson Ferry Rd. is nearing completion. The near 500 foot section will connect two of Brookhaven’s largest neighborhoods in the District One area, Hampton Hall and Cambridge Park.
The City’s Comprehensive plan calls for sidewalks on both sides of the City’s busier streets.
About a year ago, the City installed several new pedestrian crossing indicators called Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons (RRFBs), which are activated by pedestrians with a push button to alert motorists of their presence in the crosswalk.
The new sidewalk enables pedestrians walking out of Hampton Hall to head down Johnson Ferry Rd. where they can cross the street at one of these RRFBs and access Cambridge Square Shopping Center.
The following locations received these indicators to aid pedestrians with crossing the street:
- Ashford Dunwoody Road at the Kadleston Way/Publix Entrance
- Ashford Dunwoody Road at Blackburn Park/Cambridge Square
- Johnson Ferry Road at the Waddeston Way/Kroger Entrance
- Ashford Dunwoody Road at the YMCA/Blackburn Park Pavilion crosswalk
The City says more of these types of RRFBs will be installed around Brookhaven in the future.
