Brookhaven, GA, January 21, 2016 – The Post Reports – A Tuesday night apartment fire in the Terraces at Brookhaven Apartments on Buford Highway, resulted in 11 Brookhaven families being evacuated, three of them now receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. Several of the families were able to return home.
Officer Carlos Nino told The Post at approximately 7:30 PM Tuesday, Brookhaven Police Officers were dispatched to a fire call in building “S” of the apartment complex. Responding Officers found heavy smoke coming from an apartment unit on the northeast corner of the second level of the building (S-8).
Brookhaven Officers alerted everyone in the 12-unit building of the fire, and instructed all residents to evacuate the building.
DeKalb Fire arrived and entered the burning apartment and found no one present and were able to keep the fire contained to the one unit. Firefighters were able to douse the blaze in about 20 minutes.
Capt. Eric Johnson with DeKalb County Fire and Rescue said the cause of the fire was unknown. He reported four units in total sustained fire and/or water damage.
