DeKalb County, GA, March 23, 2016 – The Post Reports – The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners has retired K-9 Officer Luca to her handler, Master Police Officer Jacqueline Huckabey. After nearly 30 years on the job and having worked with Luca for ten years, Huckabey is also retiring. Luca will remain in her care.
“Officer Huckabey dedicated almost three decades to protecting and serving DeKalb County,” said Interim CEO Lee May. “I wish her and Luca the best during their well-deserved retirement.”
According to the County, the twelve year German Shepard police K-9 amassed an impressive record over the last five years. “Luca retires with 75 arrests; seized a total of $537,000 dollars in cash, 60,000 grams of methamphetamine, 318,000 grams of cocaine, 10,211 ounces of marijuana, and 11 pounds of heroin,” says DeKalb.
“It’s rare that a dog can last as long on the job, as Luca has done,” said MPO Huckabey. “She’s all about her job. That’s what she wants to do all the time.”
