Brookhaven, GA, April 28, 2016 – The Post Reports – The City of Brookhaven awarded commendations Tuesday evening to Police Officer Lois Strong and citizen Hector Cisneros for their heroic efforts in saving a woman’s life by pulling her out of a burning vehicle on the downtown connector in the early morning hours of April 14.
While headed home after a 12-hour shift, at approximately 5:40 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016, Officer Strong happened upon an accident scene on I-75/85 in the City of Atlanta just moments after it occurred. Police say Officer Strong “noticed flames coming from one of the vehicles and immediately activated her emergency equipment as she maneuvered her vehicle across multiple lanes in order to stop and render aid.”
Cisneros informed Officer Strong he believed someone was still in the burning vehicle. With flames roaring throughout the vehicle only inches from the front passenger area, Cisneros was able to pry open the badly damaged front passenger side door of the vehicle.
Cisneros and Officer Strong worked together to pull the female driver from the burning vehicle and away from the flames, just before loud explosions came from the vehicle, erupting it in flames seconds later.
Officer Strong used her police vehicle to shield and protect the victim while waiting on Fire and EMS to respond.
