This year’s event will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 8am and is sizing up to be even bigger and better than last year!
100% of the proceeds from this annual event are donated directly to Ashford Park Elementary School to fund resources and initiatives that would otherwise not be possible. This year’s goal is $50,000.
“The Bolt is, by far, Ashford Park Elementary’s largest annual fundraiser. 100% of the event’s proceeds go directly to the school and are used to fund vital programs and classroom purchases, which would not be possible without the Bolt,” organizers told The Post. “With Brookhaven’s continued support, we are looking forward to another record-breaking year.”
The Brookhaven Bolt was created by Bill Sluben in 2007 with about 200 runners the first year. Since then it has raised over $250,000 for Ashford Park Elementary and now hosts over 1800 runners annually. The challenging but fair race course is USATF Certified and winds through the Ashford Park neighborhood.
Beginning and ending at Village Place Brookhaven, the course is a challenging yet fair test for runners of all abilities. This race is perfect for all levels of running ability including strollers and walkers. For a detailed look at the course, elevation change, water stations and more click HERE.
The 5k race is officially certified by the USATF and is eligible in the event a National Open Record is set. The Bolt is also recognized by the Road Runners Club of America.
