Brookhaven, GA, May 24, 2016 – The Post Reports – Brownie Troop #14579 from Montgomery Elementary School (MES) recently presented a check for $500.00 to the MES School Board to help with the building of a new playground. The girls say they hope the playground can be completed and ready for them to enjoy in the coming school year. The donation comes as the result of the students’ hard work selling cookies this Spring by hosting local cookie booths, online sales and good old-fashioned door-to-door salesmanship.
“The girls really wanted to do something good for the community with their earnings,” said Cheryl Monkhouse, one of the troop’s co-leaders. “They decided to give back to the school, with the hopes that they will one-day get to enjoy the playground, as will their younger siblings and generations of students that pass through the doors at Montgomery Elementary.”
The other co-leader, Michelle Carden, and the Troop’s Cookie Mom, Susan Williams, were instrumental in the decision-making process, helping to provide suggestions on where donations could be made, but in the end, the school ultimately won out. The Mustang Fund to date is three-fourths of the way to reaching its $100,000 goal.
