Chamblee, GA, December 9, 2016 – by Trey Benton – Chamblee Officer Kevin Taylor was on routine patrol around 8:00 PM Wednesday evening. His route took him past the 4900 block of Peachtree Road where he observed something unusual, a U-Haul truck backed up to one of the service bays at Wrights Car Care. Officer Taylor inquired further.
Upon making contact with three males, Officer Taylor was told arrangements had been made with the owner of Wright’s to have a motorcycle and boat delivered there. One of those men was Erick Pineda, age 45 of Brookhaven, who is listed on the report as being an employee of Wright’s. Pineda’s story was confirmed by Police after contacting the auto repair shop’s owner.
While running the three males through the computer, Officer Taylor asked dispatch to send another Chamblee PD Officer to assist. Officer Kevin Ryan responded.
After a brief search, Officer Ryan alerted Officer Taylor the threes men were going to be detained for drug possession. A more thorough search that involved Brookhaven PD Officer David Fikes and his K-9 partner Dano ensued. K-9 Dano alerted Officer Fikes he detected the presence of illicit drugs, later to be found as raw marijuana and methamphetamine.
Officer Ryan recovered a cardboard box that contained 3 pounds of marijuana and 1 kilo of methamphetamine. $29,000 in cash was also located in one of the vehicles on scene.
Complaining of difficulty breathing, Pineda was transported to Grady Hospital for observation. He was later released from the hospital and placed in the Chamblee Jail along with the two other males, Micheal Spencer and Richard Douglas Hensley. Three males were charged with felony drug possession. The vehicles were impounded at the scene.
