Brookhaven, GA, January 19, 2017 – The Post Reports – According to a 2017 Safest City in Georgia report by SafeWise, Brookhaven is the safest City in DeKalb County and 29th in the State, up 1 point from 30th in 2016. In the County, Decatur came in 2nd, dropping from 37th to 42nd and Dunwoody came in third, a drop from 59th to 61st overall. Brookhaven is also ranked the safest City inside the Perimeter, according to SafeWise.
To come up with their numbers, SafeWise says they reviewed the most recent FBI Crime Report statistics from 2015, along with population data. “We eliminated all cities with fewer than 4,000 residents as well as any cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI,” says the SafeWise report.
From there, SafeWise says they evaluated the remaining cities. “We narrowed it down based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) in each city. To further level the playing field, we calculated the likelihood of these crimes occurring out of 1,000 people in each city.”
According to the SafeWise report, Johns Creek is Georgia’s safest City and Milton came in 2nd. Sandy Springs hung on to the 27th spot and the City of Atlanta ranked 92nd, the report says.
