DeKalb County, GA, March 13, 2017 – The Post Reports – The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office reports that renowned jewelry thief, Doris Marie Payne, 86, was arrested Monday, March 14, by their Fugitive Unit after being sought on a bench warrant for Failure to Appear at an arraignment hearing earlier this month.
“Ms. Payne, who was to have been in court on March 6, 2017, was out on bond after having been arrested for an alleged jewelry theft at Perimeter Mall last year,” a Sheriff’s Office release says. “The Fugitive Unit took Ms. Payne into custody at her home in Atlanta without incident. She was transported to the DeKalb County Jail.”
Payne, was arrested last December by Dunwoody Police after allegedly trying to steal a $1,995 diamond necklace from retailer Von Maur and was released on $15,000 bond.
Payne, whose world-wide 60-year “career” as a jewelry thief has awarded her with some 20 arrests in several countries around the world, is also the subject of a documentary, The Life and Crimes of Doris Payne.
