Brookhaven, GA, May 4, 2017 – by Trey Benton – Brookhaven Planning Commissioners are recommending City Council approve an additional point of review to their scope as a result of the City opting to table efforts to create a Design Review Board (DRB). The added criteria that would be added to the Board’s purview would include whether the aesthetic and architectural design of a proposed site is compatible with the intent and requirements of the Comprehensive Plan, the City’s Character Area Study, and guidelines suggested in Overlay Districts.
The same language would also apply to the Planning Commission’s consideration of Special Land Use Permits.
Back in early March, Planning Commission members recommended Brookhaven Councilmembers forego creating the new layer of Government. Later that month, the City Council agreed since the idea for the DRB was borne specifically for the Brookhaven/Oglethorpe MARTA Transit Oriented Development that was withdrawn. They said they would prefer to address the issues in the Zoning Rewrite, which will follow the Overlay Review and Rewrite.
Planning Commission members approved the addition to their scope during their Wednesday, May 3rd meeting.
