DeKalb County, GA, May 8, 2017 – The Post Reports – DeKalb County Sheriff Jeffrey L. Mann was arrested Saturday, May 6th and charged with one count of public indecency and one count of obstruction of an officer.
According to an Atlanta Police Department (APD) report, APD Officer Snell alleges he was patrolling Piedmont Park on foot when he observed a black male in a park area that is “known for sexual acts after dark”. He says the man was fondling himself and eventually began masturbating.
Officer Snell said in the report once he identified himself to the suspect by shining a flashlight on him, the male immediately fled on foot. “I ran behind the male while yelling, ‘Police, STOP!’,” Officer Snell reports.
After the chase ended, the suspect was identified as Sheriff Mann and he was placed in to custody. Sheriff Mann was later released on bond.
DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said in a release that Sheriff Mann is working to clear the charges against him up.
According to WSB Reporter Mark Winne, Sheriff Mann said the arrest was a misunderstanding.
