Brookhaven, GA, May 9, 2017 – The Post Reports – The Greater Atlanta ASIS Chapter of ASIS International presented the Brookhaven Police Department with their “Positive Policing Award” during a Tuesday ceremony in downtown Atlanta. ASIS International is a professional security organization dedicated to promoting leadership throughout the profession.
On behalf of the Brookhaven Police Department, Officer Carlos Nino accepted the award. “I appreciate the fact that all of the department’s efforts with the community were recognized today,” said Officer Nino in a City release. “Now more than ever, it’s important for us as a local authority to bridge the gap to the community.”
The award was given to the department in response to the dedication exhibited by their officers to the Brookhaven Community,” says the release. “Programs such as Shop with a Badge, Coffee with a Cop, and the Hispanic Citizen’s Police Academy highlight the department’s commitment to community outreach and public engagement.”
Since the inception of the department, the City says it has been the belief that community policing is not a unilateral effort, but rather bilateral, and requires a strong partnership between law enforcement and the community.
Deputy Police Chief Juan Grullon said in the release, “Community engagement and positive interaction between police officers and the citizens they protect are integral to developing and maintaining positive relationships with the community.”
