Brookhaven, GA, June 14, 2017 – The Post Reports – Brookhaven Police announced Wednesday, the DeKalb Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Task Force arrested Edward Tavarez (age – 24, 5’09”, 200 lbs, of Norcross), Tuesday evening, June 13, 2017. Taverez is the man who on June 1, 2017, allegedly shot and killed 26-year-old Travis Ridley at the Avana Uptown Apartments on Clairmont Rd.
“Brookhaven Police Detectives have worked around the clock since the murder to identify and locate the shooter,” Brookhaven Police Major Brandon Gurley said in the release. “Information received by Brookhaven Detectives and the DeKalb Sheriff’s Fugitive task force late yesterday led them to a location in Stone Mountain where Tavarez was arrested.”
Police say Tavarez has been charged with Murder and Armed Robbery and is currently being held at the DeKalb County Detention Center.
On Thursday, June 1st, at approximately 5:45 PM, Officers responded to the Avana Uptown apartment complex in reference to a person shot call. According to Major Gurley, when officers arrived they found Ridley on the ground and began life saving measures while they waited for an ambulance to arrive. Ridley was transported to Grady Hospital, however was pronounced dead on arrival. He suffered from more than one gun shot wound.
Early in the investigation, Police said they believe this shooting involved some sort of drug activity, and that neither the victim or the shooter were residents of the apartment complex. Detectives are continuing their investigation in to the circumstances that led up to the shooting and have not released any other details at this time.
