Brookhaven, GA June 27, 2017 – The Post Reports – The DeKalb Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Task Force announced in a Tuesday release that they have arrested 27-year old Abel Ashmelash of Stone mountain in connection with the June 1, 2017 Brookhaven murder case of Travis Ridley. Ashmelash has been charged with Felony Murder and Armed Robbery. He is currently being held at the DeKalb County Detention Center.
Ashmelash is the second person arrested in this case. 24-year old Edward Tavarez was arrested June 13, 2017 and is also charged with Felony Murder and Armed robbery.
On Thursday, June 1st, at approximately 5:45 PM, Officers responded to the Avana Uptown apartment complex in reference to a person shot call. According to Major Gurley, when officers arrived they found Ridley on the ground and began life saving measures while they waited for an ambulance to arrive. Ridley was transported to Grady Hospital, however was pronounced dead on arrival. He suffered from more than one gun shot wound.
Early in the investigation, Police said they believed this shooting involved some sort of drug activity, and that neither the victim or the shooter were residents of the apartment complex. DeKalb Sheriff’s Office is now saying that warrants allege that the three men may have been involved in a drug deal for an estimated $26,000.
